The golem is one of my favorite mythological monsters; it hails from Jewish legend. The golem itself is a human-shaped construct, usually made out of clay, that has been brought to life by a sorcerer or a holy-man. It was usually characterized as being slow, awkward, and lumbering and was unable to speak in most early depictions. They could be created to do hard or labor or to protect a community from persecution. Using a golem could be dangerous, however, as their ability to think was limited, and they could mis-interpret a command to disastrous results.
